I’ve got some exciting news to share: Once Upon a Hill is relaunching tomorrow, with a renewed focus on original reporting, a new publishing schedule and more ways to take you behind the scenes of Congress.
In 2022, I became the first Substack publisher accredited by a congressional press gallery. Since then, I’ve spent the past two Congresses reporting on the legislative battles, leadership decisions and political maneuvering shaping Washington, while building relationships with the lawmakers, aides and other people who help me understand what’s happening beyond the headlines.
Along the way, I’ve also tried to show what’s possible when an independent journalist has the same access, ambition and commitment to rigorous reporting as a traditional newsroom. It’s been a rewarding experiment and one I’m still learning from.
It’s also provided the experience that has laid the foundation for what I hope will be an even more ambitious chapter of Once Upon a Hill.
