Since Congress Nerd Daily is still on summer break for one more week, here’s something a little different for your Sunday reading.
A Media Operator recently profiled me and Once Upon a Hill, including the nearly yearlong process of becoming the first journalist publishing on Substack to receive a congressional press credential, how that access changed my reporting and what I’ve learned building an independent newsroom from scratch.
One detail from the piece made me especially proud: The congressional press gallery told AMO that a handful of other Substack publishers have since been credentialed.
I’m proud to have been first. I’m even prouder I wasn’t the last.
🔓 The Sunday edition is free. But if you want Once Upon a Hill in your inbox each evening, upgrade your subscription for full access to every edition and the complete archive. Whether you’re taking the votes, writing the bills, running the campaigns, shaping the message or trying to influence any of the above, Congress Nerd Daily helps you see around corners before everyone else catches up.
