House conservatives pressure Johnson to renege on funding deal
The speaker said he’s just listening to his members. But if he were to reverse course, it would be the second time Republicans in the lower chamber broke an agreement to keep their word.
House conservatives spent the morning in Speaker Mike Johnson’s office urging the Louisiana Republican to back out of a deal he announced with Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-N.Y.) last Sunday that set the cap on the total amount Congress can fund the government at through the end of September.
