Harris gets backup in the battlegrounds

👋🏾 Hi, hey, hello! Welcome back to Once Upon a Hill. The election is in 15 days. Vice President Kamala Harris turned 60 yesterday and spent her birthday weekend on the campaign trail stumping in Detroit with Lizzo and in Atlanta with Usher on Saturday. She remained in Georgia on Sunday, where she attended two church services and spoke about the parable of the Good Samaritan while encouraging Black people of faith to vote in the election.
Harris had plenty of backup in the battlegrounds and her campaign hosted more than 100 get-out-the-vote events this weekend.
In Georgia, the Congressional Black Caucus embarked on a bus tour to promote Harris’s economic agenda for Black Americans during stops in Savannah, Atlanta and Macon, Georgia, with several members, including Reps. Steven Horsford (D-NV), Sydney Kamlager-Dove (D-CA), Valerie Foushee (D-NC), Stacey Plaskett (D-Virgin Islands), Gabe Amo (D-RI) and more. Rep. Marilyn Strickland (D-WA), Atlanta Mayor Andre Dickens and Maya Harris also headlined canvass kick-offs and early voting events targeted at AANHPI and Latino voters to mark the first weekend of early voting in the state. And national and local leaders will headline HBCU Homecoming celebrations at various universities and a Divine Nine tailgate on Sunday before the Atlanta Falcons game.
Sen. Laphonza Butler (D-CA) and Rep. Jasmine Crockett (D-TX) joined HBCU homecoming celebrations across North Carolina with Environmental Protection Agency Administrator Michael Regan and actress Claudia Jordan. Crockett also joined state, faith and community leaders for a Souls to the Polls organizing launch.
Sen. Elizabeth Warren (D-MA) anchored a GOTV rally on Saturday and headlined an early voting event on Sunday in Wisconsin. And Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY) and United Auto Workers President Shawn Fain headlined a labor rally yesterday in Pennsylvania. (A bus tour featuring Blue-Wall Govs. Whitmer, Shapiro and Evers will travel across Pittsburgh, State College and Lancaster on Saturday and Sunday as well.)
Early voting is underway in several states as the Harris camp looks to turn out their bases to generate momentum in what remains a margin-of-error race.
