Happenings: January 9, 2024
The House is back to officially kick off the 2024 session of what’s expected to be a wild year in Congress.

It’s Tuesday, January 9, 2024. Here’s what’s happening in Congress and across national politics today.
ON CAPITOL HILL
10 a.m. The Senate will meet with a vote at 11:45 a.m. to confirm John Kazen to be US District Judge for the Southern District of Texas.
12 p.m. The Senate will recess until 2:15 p.m. for weekly caucus lunches.
3 p.m. Speaker Mike Johnson will hold a photo spray at the top of his meeting with Ambassador Alexander Yui of Taiwan.
6:30 p.m. The House will meet to establish a quorum for the second session of the 118th Congress.
AT THE WHITE HOUSE
10:15 a.m. Vice President Kamala Harris will travel from Washington, DC to Atlanta, arriving at 11:55 a.m.
1:30 p.m. The vice president will participate in a roundtable discussion with community leaders on voting rights at The Gathering Spot, an Atlanta community hub.
2 p.m. Press Secretary Karine Jean-Pierre will brief reporters.
2:45 p.m. President Biden will receive his daily intelligence briefing.
3:50 p.m. Vice President Harris will depart Atlanta en route back to Washington, where she will arrive at 5:20 p.m.
